July 28 - too much of a good thing?

Was beginning to get a bit restless with all the peace and quiet. The tatami mats were bothering me, so were the bugs and mosquitoes. But it was a cloudy day, and we had the morning off. So I set off o. A nice long walk along the cedar tree lined curved paths up the hill. Couldn't see a soul but I knew there were tons of cicadas and crickets - just going by the sheer racket they were making. Passed a couple of Japanese cemeteries along the way. And quiet homes where folks had apparently left for Nagano city for a typical work day.

After a quick lunch, started reading about Kissinger and Nelson. It struck me how we are all imperfect and insecure - even the president and vice-president of the country. Them, more so than the rest of us. What a responsibility - the sheer magnitude and impact of decisions they have to live with - forever.

Headed over to Dorothee's place in the afternoon. Did some more weeding and helped her with some online marketing work. A quick stop in suzaka downtown for groceries convinced me I didn't live in a town of zombies. People did exist ;). Got home and cooked some fried potatoes, tofu and vegetables. Followed with some Chilean merlot and a healthy? debate about the art and science of wine connoisseurs with Michael. An ice cream cone to cool us off and back to Kissinger. And then the night fell - slowly and surely
