July 4th : Day 4 - of animals in a bowl

The day started after a hearty breakfast out of Serengeti and into the ngorongoro crater. The only place where animals never migrate off of coz everything they need - food, water and shelter is present throughout the year.
We saw a few hyenas hanging out by the water , a bunch of Wildebeest crossing the roads ( zebra crossing had gotten old by now). A bunch of monkeys but no one wanted to photograph them any more. And the usual ostriches, gazelles, giraffes, et al.
We were keen to spot a rhino - the only one of the big five we hadn't spotted yet. Luckily, Roy has sharp eyes and ears tuned to the radio talk with other cars. And soon we were able to squint through our binocs to find a rhino way out there in the dense grass. At least we saw it - albeit not as closely as we would've liked. And definitely not proof enough in terms of one good pic. But hey - it's crossed off our list.

The boxed lunches were by a pool where there were more hippos but this one was a lot more beautiful and pretty than yesterday's hippo pool. The geography of the crater was interesting - one side dry with salt lakes and cacti growing everywhere. The other side dense , lush green forests with fresh water lakes that stayed thy ways right through summer.  We didn't spot any carnivores but were reassured they existed.

Onwards back to flamingo hotel. This time we had a group heart to heart over two bottles of wine. A bit much for me I think. But it was fun. Dinner and then girl talk. No dance show thankfully for me to suffer through tonight.
