Jul 1 - Safari day 1 - of great expectations

Hot showers to kick off the day. Oh the luxury! And a nice sit down breakfast at springs land hotel.
Packed ourselves into the Land Rover we were going to be stuck in for the next few days and after greeting our tour guide ,Roy, we started off on our safari adventures.

Our first stop was for red bananas - outside a town called Arusha close to Lake Manyara. They tasted yum - am sure someone got a pic of it - it did have red skin! We stopped for a picnic at Lake Manyara entrance ( more boxed lunches - was I beginning to detest them) and spotted the tree of life. Lone and proud, leafless, but it's fall branches reaching out in all directions to absorb life from the sun.

The first creatures we spotted were the babboons. First a few , then some more and then they were everywhere. Big, small, old , young , black face , blue face, all of them having a merry time going about eating what they could find , taking tics of each other, fooling around or just following their tribes.  Soon after we stopped at a view point where we saw our first wildebeest , zebra, stalks, hippos, giraffes, imaplas as well as warthogs. All of them collected around a pool of water called the 'hippo pool' where they all existed in perfect harmony. We also saw a flight of Pelicans , some vultures and some ostrich on our way through the park. It was all at a distance and we had to rely on our binocs to see much - but it was pretty awesome seeing the animals in their natural habitat seemingly blissfully ignorant of our existence.

We stopped at flamingo hotel in a town called karatu that night. It was a nice hotel with welcome drinks, hot towels , and nice comfy rooms. To top it off they had a cultural dance show after dinner that night. A cool song, dance , acrobatics show that ended with a group dance thingy that I chickened my way out of ;)
